Current Minimum Bid Increment: $3

Item condition: New

I bought several beautiful “Space Themed” neckties from the employee store at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the late 1990s. The three shown here are being offered individually by auction: choose which style you prefer by going to the appropriate page and bidding. I believe these are the last of these ties in my possession.

Besides loving the subject matter, I’m particularly intrigued by the weave in the silk: depending on how the light strikes the fabric, you can see there are designs woven into the silk — planets and spacecraft and other spacey icons. You can see this pretty well in the photos, especially the closer one: in “real life” the effect is more subtle than this, but you get the idea. They show better in the gray tie, but all definitely have them. (You can click the photos to see them larger.)

The problem is, I didn’t — and don’t! — wear ties very often. One of them (with the Hubble motif) became my go-to on the occasions when I do need a tie. But the others have never even been out of their plastic hang tags! They’re true “new old stock” items — never worn. They’ve been hanging in my closet all these years, and thus there may be a little dust, especially at the top (in the plastic clip). They otherwise appear to be in new condition.

Best of all: they’re Made in the USA, just like the various spacecraft depicted.

The one I’ve been wearing is not for sale: it’s my favorite tie, and every time I wear it I get comments on how interesting and/or beautiful it is.

The others are separately available to the highest bidders.

About the Manufacturer

Wemco started as the Wembley Tie Company in 1925 by Samuel C. Pulitzer and his brother Emanuel. By the 1960s, it had 750 employees in New Orleans and New York, and produced 35,000 ties per day, making it the largest maker of men’s neckwear in the world, with sales of more than $60 million per year.

Sidney Pulitzer and his brother Arthur took over the company from their father, and renamed it Wemco. The brothers sold the firm to Randa in 1997. Sidney Pulitzer also taught entrepreneurship at the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in New Orleans.

To Bid

You have to have an “account” with this shopping cart. Accounts were only added as a function here in December, once we got a new credit card processor that keeps all payment info on their servers, not mine. So if you haven’t created an account here, you can sign up for that on this page (or recover your password if you don’t remember it). Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to bid, and/or increase your bid should someone outbid you.

Do Not Bid on this item unless you are willing to pay the price you bid within 24 hours of the auction’s conclusion should you win: it is not fair to bid on it and then not conclude the process by purchasing when there are others who are serious about this item.

Important Note: I reserve the right to adjust the end time, forward or back, or cancel the option or any bids, should I detect flaws in how the software is working, or for any other reason.

Shipping is included in USA. A shipping cost for elsewhere is US$5 (Canada) or US$10 (overseas) must be paid either way if you win, before it will be shipped. I cannot guarantee intact delivery outside USA. Inside USA, the cost includes insurance so that if it is lost damaged in transit, your cost will be refunded. If you claim damage, item return is required.

Thanks for helping support This is True, and Enjoy!
